A £3.2 million housing development is set to bring 35 new homes to the picturesque Essex village of Canewdon.

Sanctuary Homes has started work on the delivery of a variety of properties at its Three Acres development for shared ownership and affordable rent.

The development, due for completion in spring 2019, will comprise 21 two-bedroom, seven three-bedroom and three four-bedroom houses, as well as four apartments

Eighteen of the houses will be for shared ownership with the remaining properties available for affordable rent.

They form part of Sanctuary’s national development programme to build 30,000 new homes across England and Scotland over the next 10 years.

The homes, part-funded by Homes England, are being built on the site of former stables on Anchor Lane and the village’s historic architecture has also been reflected in the sympathetic design of the properties.

Sarah Brind, Sanctuary’s senior development manager, said: “These new homes at Three Acres will be a welcome boost to Canewdon and deliver much-needed affordable housing for local people.

“Owning a home is an aspiration for many and this development will provide the opportunity for first time buyers to get onto the housing ladder through shared ownership, as well as home ownership options for families.”
