First-time buyers Hannah and Joe Pickstock thought the dream of owning their own home would remain out of reach for a good few years before finding out about Shared Ownership with Sanctuary Homes.

The couple, both 24, had been renting in Chester for nearly four years but have now made the step onto the property ladder after moving into their own home at Sanctuary’s Chase Park development in Ellesmere Port.

Joe, a recruitment consultant, and Hannah, who works for a travel agent, have always wanted to own their own home but thought the cost would be prohibitive to them.

Hannah explained: “We had looked at other options like Help to Buy, but due to the higher deposits and interest rates we decided to leave it.

“We heard about Sanctuary Homes and the Shared Ownership opportunities available at Chase Park and knew it was the perfect starting point to help us get a foot on the housing ladder. We were really impressed with the standard of the property and it’s in a great up and coming area which is seeing lots of investment.”

Hannah and Joe are keen to spread the word and say they would thoroughly recommend Shared Ownership with Sanctuary Homes to other young first-time buyers.

“We wouldn’t have been able to buy for a few years without Shared Ownership – it really has given us an opportunity we didn’t think we would be able to have,” Hannah said.

“It gives people like ourselves who are young and working a chance to buy their own home without having to spend years saving in excess of £20,000 just to be able to afford a deposit. With Shared Ownership you can start at a lower purchase percentage to suit your individual need and work your way up from there.”
