Sanctuary Homes is investing £10,000 refurbishing Canewdon Village Hall as part of its development programme in Essex.

The popular community facility is undergoing a complete external redecoration and replacement of existing double glazed windows.

Work is being carried out alongside the delivery of new affordable family homes at Kimberley Road in Great Wakering, Harris Court in Hockley and Althorne Way in Canewdon.

The refurbishment forms part of Sanctuary’s MORE programme, which connects with people in places where Sanctuary is developing new homes and helps to engage future residents with the organisation’s work.

Colleen Eccles, Sanctuary’s Head of Development – Relationship Management, said: “As part of our MORE programme we are always looking to support projects in the communities where we are building new homes.

“We are pleased to be able to use this money to improve a popular venue which benefits local people.”

Sanctuary’s Assistant Development Manager, Chris Nixon, added: “An integral aspect of any development is being able to give something back to the community.

“Canewdon Village Hall is used by a variety of local groups and this refurbishment will ensure they have a facility they can be proud to use for years to come.”

Sanctuary Homes is also delivering 35 new properties at its Three Acres development in Canewdon for shared ownership and affordable rent.

Due for completion in spring 2019, there will be 21 two-bedroom, seven three-bedroom and three four-bedroom houses, as well as four apartments
