A significant new £35 million housing development is set to bring more than 240 new homes to the Kent town of Sittingbourne.

Sanctuary Homes, the development arm of leading housing provider Sanctuary Group, is constructing 242 properties at Cooks Lane, due to be delivered over several phases up to the spring of 2023.

The development, Sanctuary’s largest and most ambitious project to date, will feature 155 two, three and four-bedroom houses as well as 87 apartments, available for affordable rent, shared ownership and outright sale.

Supported by funding from Homes England, the properties will be a major boost to Sittingbourne, both addressing the housing crisis and creating vital new jobs through the construction pipeline.

Sarah Brind, Sanctuary’s Head of Development – South, said: “Providing homes for people who really need them sits at the heart of Sanctuary’s social purpose and this substantial development underpins that commitment.

“These new homes will transform this area of Sittingbourne and we are proud to be delivering such a range of properties.”

Sanctuary will be working with appointed contractor ENGIE and work on the first homes at the site, which will be known as Watling Gate, is due to begin imminently.

Dan Germann, MD of London and South Developments at ENGIE, commented: “Creating affordable housing is a key focus for us here at ENGIE. We’re delighted to be working on this project and helping to deliver such a wide range of properties in Sittingbourne.

“Sanctuary Group is a long-standing partner of ENGIE, with the two companies working together for several years. We’re looking forward to delivering another successful scheme together.”
