Sanctuary Homes are inviting people to share their DIY stories across the August Bank Holiday weekend to win a gift voucher.

It’s the last Bank Holiday Weekend of the year and whether you’ll be decorating a room or getting the garden in shape it’s going to be a busy weekend for home improvements.

New homeowners like to personalise their property, whether by decorating the interior or the exterior of their home, while people who are looking to move to a new home will look to carry out repairs or improvements to areas that could benefit their chance of a sale.

But are you more D.I.Y or G.P.I? Are you hands-on when it comes to decorating/fixing and like to ‘Do It Yourself’ or would you rather ‘Get Professionals In’?

A recent survey revealed 74% of UK homes planned to do DIY this year, with 1 in 4 people planning to carry out improvements during the August Bank Holiday weekend. The most popular D.I.Y tasks include:

  • Painting a room
  • Tiling a bathroom
  • Putting up shelves
  • Laying a carpet
  • Putting up decking
  • Clearing out guttering
  • Landscaping a garden
  • Cleaning windows
  • Getting the garden winter-ready!

On social media, Sanctuary Homes are asking people what home improvement tasks they would be prepared to do themselves and which they would get professional help for. Everyone who takes part by commenting or sharing their story on their Facebook page will be placed into a random prize draw* to win a £50 gift voucher.

The August Bank Holiday Weekend is traditionally one of the busiest “D.I.Y” weekends of the year with an estimated 16 million people across the UK planning to carry out repairs or improvements.

If you’re one of them, good luck and stay safe.
