Sanctuary Homes have been spreading holiday cheer to children in Blacon, Chester as they work to redevelop an area known as The Parade.

The property developer is currently creating a new medical centre in the Chester district, as well as new affordable apartments and a health and wellbeing hub. As part of their commitment to supporting local community projects through Sanctuary’s MORE! programme, members of the construction team took time out to visit a local children’s project and to deliver some festive treats.

Sanctuary Homes very own Santa’s Little Helpers, Head of Construction Neil Ruecroft and Senior Development Manager Danielle Wrigley donned their Christmas jumpers and delivered hundreds of selection boxes to Blacon Adventure Playground.

Known locally as ‘The Venny’, Blacon Adventure Playground is a free playground and city farm for local children and is owned and managed by the social enterprise known as Avenue Services. The Venny has been operating for over 40 years and receives hundreds of visitors every year, who come to enjoy its array of farmyard animals, play structures and wild woodland.

The selection box donation was delivered to playground manager Sandra Hewitt and will make up part of Christmas packages that the playground team are creating and will deliver to 400 local children this Christmas.

Danielle Wrigley said it was important to get involved locally, “It’s always great to be able to support local projects where we work, it’s what our MORE! programme is all about. Where we can, we and our contractor partners pledge to support communities through donation of time, manpower or in this case, some festive cheer. We’re currently building 16 new apartments, a GP surgery and health centre on land next to the existing Parade Enterprise Centre in Blacon which will be a great asset to the community.

As we will be on site this time next year, we have also pledged to do the same next year to support The Venny, and we hope all of the children enjoy their festive treats.”

The GP surgery and health centre will ensure the Blacon community has access to medical facilities on their doorstep and construction work got underway in the summer of 2020 following the closure of development sites during the coronavirus pandemic.
