Child’s play for Sanctuary in Aberdeen
Community partnership has proven to be child’s play in Aberdeenshire for Sanctuary Housing, as a new playground park is unveiled in Portsoy.
While building new homes for social rent in the Moray Firth coastal town, Sanctuary Housing Scotland were made aware of a nearby local playground that had fallen into disrepair and could no longer be used by local families. Sanctuary’s MORE! initiative though has helped them to create a new space for children to play in and has reenforced their commitment to supporting local communities where they work.
As one of the UK’s leading providers of housing, Sanctuary has pledged to support community projects where they develop new homes through their MORE! initiative. This scheme sees them working with development partners who pledge to donate manpower, materials, funding or equipment to help local communal projects.
Working with contractor partner Robertson Construction, who provided funds and labour, a new playground was fitted with brand new equipment from Proludic Ltd. which will benefit existing and future residents.
Colleen Eccles spearheads the MORE! campaign for Sanctuary: “Play is a really important aspect of children’s lives and of the community. We are really pleased to have been able to provide this resource and hope that children and families will enjoy it for years to come.”
The first of the new affordable homes for rent were handed over to residents earlier this year with the development, built on the former Campbell Hospital site fifty miles north of Aberdeen being Sanctuary’s most northernly site so far.
